UMD 500 Beds Short for the Fall
The University of Maryland at College Park had a plan. That was to grow the
freshman class by 100 students each year. What happens when more than you
expected accept your invitation - Overcrowding. Doubles become triples and
if that doesn’t work, then 4th and 5th seniors are booted off campus. All
freshmen are guaranteed on-campus housing.
In previous years the UMD has found it necessary to make off-campus
arrangements for students who had been promised on-campus housing. Many
students spent months living in local hotel rooms waiting for a room to
become available.
